“War is a monster born of hypocrisy, fed on falsehood, fattened by humbug, kept alive by superstition, directed to the death and torture of millions, succeeding in no high purpose, degrading to humanity, endangering civilization and bringing forth in its travail a hideous brood of strife, conflict and war, more war.” -Arthur Ponsonby

Some things never change

This letter, dated 856, was discovered in a sealed cave library in western China.

Translated:

Yesterday, having drunk too much, I was intoxicated as to pass all bounds; but none of the rude and coarse language I used was uttered in a conscious state. The next morning, after hearing others speak on the subject, I realised what had happened, whereupon I was overwhelmed with confusion and ready to sink into the earth with shame.

Mary Anne Hobbs

While in college I was put on to the still infantile Grime scene in East London by a friend who had been involved in its development.  At the time it was difficult to keep up on the quickly developing sounds from here in NY so I was always on the lookout for up-to-date resources.  Immediately I became hooked on 2 radio outlets out of the UK:  RinseFM and Mary Anne Hobbs’ Breezeblock show on Radio 1.  I’ve been a tremendous fan of this scene for a long while and I have the Breezeblock (later called simply Experimental) to partially thank for that.  I’ll never forget hearing Vex’d live in the mix in ‘05 on Mary Anne’s show.  Sad to see her go!
